Tip Calculator
Split bills with tip
About This Calculator
Tipping customs vary by country and service type, but in the US a tip of 15–20% is standard for restaurant service. This calculator computes the tip amount, the total bill, and how much each person owes when splitting — making it easy to settle up at the table without mental arithmetic.
Formula
Tip Amount = Bill × (Tip% ÷ 100)
Total = Bill + Tip Amount
Per Person = Total ÷ Number of People
Example Calculation
A $92 restaurant bill for 4 people with an 18% tip.
- Tip = $92 × 0.18 = $16.56
- Total = $92 + $16.56 = $108.56
- Per person = $108.56 ÷ 4 = $27.14
Each person pays $27.14

Frequently Asked Questions
How much should I tip at a restaurant?
15% is the baseline for adequate service, 18–20% is standard for good service, and 25%+ is for exceptional service. For takeout, 10–15% is customary.
Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
Tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is technically correct, but the difference is small. Most people tip on the full total for simplicity.
How do I split the bill unevenly?
This calculator splits equally. For uneven splits, calculate each person's share of the subtotal, then apply the tip percentage to their individual amount.
